Guanajuato was the only state in the country to receive this award. Thanks to the cross-cutting work between the Ministry of Environment and Land Management (SMAOT), and the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) of the State of Guanajuato.

Through the Emblem Project: Intersectoral Alliance for Adaptation to Climate Change in Tourism in the Cuenca de la Soledad Natural Protected Area (NPA) in the municipality of Guanajuato, the adoption of ecosystem-based adaptation measures is being promoted as part of the tourism business to reduce its risk to climate change.

The Government of Guanajuato joins the “Better Alliances, Better Forests” (MAMB) initiative of Reforestamos Mexico, with the aim of uniting diverse allies to promote sustainable development in the state.

Since 2011, through Better Alliances Better Forests, it has been possible to improve land management, providing timely follow-up to the trees for a period of 3 years from the date of reforestation, through the work of forest communities, generating local employment to ensure the survival of the trees.

Better Alliances, Better Forests is a Territorial Governance Platform promoted by Reforestamos Mexico that articulates decision making through strategic alliances that contribute to Integrated Landscape Management and Connectivity of natural resources, in order to ensure ecosystem services near metropolitan areas and large cities.

In alliance with SMAOT, we have intervened in 17 companies, covering 72 hectares.

The “Alliance for the Forests of Guanajuato” program seeks to restore 3,900 hectares of the “Sierra de Lobos-Sierra de Santa Rosa” corridor to combat water stress and guarantee water supply to the cities of Guanajuato, such as León, Guanajuato and Silao.

The State Government reaffirms its commitment to improve the quality of life of the people of Guanajuato by strengthening the actions and programs that make up the environmental policy towards a more sustainable Guanajuato.

Reforestamos México is a civil association that, since 2002, collaborates with different sectors of society to ensure more and better forests, promoting actions focused on halting deforestation, increasing sustainable forest management, restoring degraded lands and planting trees in urban areas.
